Staff Accountant

Compensation: $55,000 – $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience

About the Organizations

College of St. Joseph the Worker is a 501(c)(3) trades college in Steubenville, Ohio dedicated to forming Catholics in the trades and the Catholic academic tradition. St. Joseph’s Construction Company, LLC is a related-party entity whose sole mission is to generate revenue in support of the College. The Staff Accountant will serve both organizations under the direction of the Controller.

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the College and the Construction Company, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and compliance with applicable nonprofit and regulatory requirements. This is an individual contributor role with exposure to a unique dual-entity environment spanning nonprofit education and construction services.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the processing of accounts payable for both entities

• Process accounts receivable for both entities

• Perform general ledger coding, posting, and month-end close procedures

• Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts on a monthly basis

• Assist with payroll processing for both entities, serving as backup to the Controller

• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records

• Assist in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements

• Support annual audit and tax filings, including Form 990

• Assist with grant tracking and restricted fund accounting

• Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records for both entities

• Support construction-related accounting functions

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller

Qualifications Required

• Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, CPA not required

• Minimum 1–2 years of accounting experience, OR substantial hands-on internship experience in a relevant accounting role

• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online; experience with Intuit Enterprise Suites a plus

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to manage responsibilities across multiple entities with different accounting needs

• Discretion in handling confidential financial, personnel, and payroll information

• Genuine alignment with the mission of the College and Construction Company; a desire to use one’s professional skills in service of Catholic education and trades formation

A CPA license is not required for this position.

Preferred

• Experience in nonprofit or fund accounting, including restricted and unrestricted fund

management

• Familiarity with Form 990 preparation, Schedule reporting, or external audit support

• Experience with payroll processing and payroll tax compliance

• Exposure to multi-entity accounting environments or intercompany transactions

• Basic familiarity with construction accounting concepts such as job costing or work-in-progress (WIP) tracking

• Experience supporting or coordinating with external auditors or CPAs
